Currently China is in the state of rising, and Russia is about the same as they have been since the USSR disolved, so I think Russia would win since China isn't as prepared as it may be in several years from now.
Also, I bet Russia still has some missiles that are functionable, while I don't think China has any. If China did have any, I doubt that they would be as good as Russia.
Now, if it were around WWII time, China would be at an advatage with so many people that they could send, but today military achivements rein superior over troop force.
China is also smaller and more condenced, making it easier to bomb.

The Russians and the Chinese are some bad mothers.
Russia killed tens of millions of its own people, and the chinese killed 60 million in their civil war, the most destructive ever.
Even though the Chinese have about twice as many troops, they have almost no mobility. They are less advanced than the US was at the end of WW2, mobility wise.
The russians have more modern weapons, like the ak-74, and the t-80 tank.
The chinese have a small amount of russian built migs and su-27's, but the russians have a fairly large airforce, which has replaced most mig-21's with mig-29's and Su-27's lately.
The chinese do have a few tanks that are very advanced though. they have one that has laser detectors that aim the gun instantly at any laser designating the tank. They onlu have a few dozen of those though.
The russians have hords of t-80's.
Im pretty positive that the russians would win, They have shown alot more initiative in killing mass groups of people than the chinese have.
In aphganistan, the russians opened a can of whoopass on the insurgents and the population, killing several hundred thousand. The chinese have only oppressed their own people, and their last war, which was with vietnam directly after the US/Vietnam war, was a disaster.
The war with vietnam ended with 250,000 casualties on both sides. The US/Vietnam was 58,000 to 3 million.
Seeing that the chinese now consider vietnamese soldiers equal to their own, they arent too excited to get in a war with a military power anytime soon. With the kill ratio the US had on vietnam, it would have been anihilated with only 200,000 US casualties, and that was with US forces using late 1950's tech in the late 60's and early 70's.
After we showed the world what we had in the gulf war, with the amazing kill ratio of 825:1, the chinese undertook their most massive military buildup since the korean war. US intelligence indicated that the chinese were extremely startled by the lopsided victory.

China has the manpower, but Russia has the technology and arsenal over China, at least for now. Given the size of Russia in square miles, the manpower advantage that China has may not be a great big advantage. There's a lot of traveling to do to get anywhere in Russia which would leave ground troops isolated and exposed to attack.
It would either be a very short war or a very long one, depending on how conventional it is, however it would not be to Russia's advantage to fight a conventional war with a country that has over one billion people.
The edge would go to Russia, in my opinion.

China has the largest population of any country on earth. They could absorb enormous losses and hardly notice the effect. Under Mao Tse Tung's "Great Leap Forward" 29 million Chinese died and it didn't slow them down at all.
Russia has the technology, but China will still be there when it's all used up.

Russia would.... The rumors that Russia has old weapons are baseless. As a matter of fact, China buys most of the advance weaponry from Russia.

Obviously china, russias harsh Climate,Size, and few rivers suitable for shipping Russia has none if any natural rescourses.Making it hard to fight since not too many commie countries would fight with russia they would all be afraid of china.Sure china isnt perfect but they have size rescourses. And if that did happen the sleeping dragon (china) would awaken and kill us all.

China -- in a heartbeat. The 45 billion (USD) that China spends on its military far outstrips anything Russia does, or could, spend. Also, considering purchase-power paradie, China's budget would go further than Russia's even if they spent the same amount. (Sadly, this is true for the U.S., too -- even though it's often pointed out that the U.S. outspends the Chinese on military by $5 billion.)
Russia hasn't had the military might to crush even small nations since the end of WWII, when its communist spending began to make it a hollow country.

Wow Sam what a question. Sounds almost like king kong vs. godzilla. China is developing weapons and will one day be the other super power along with the US. People always complain about China but for the most part during their 3,000 year history they have kept to them selves and have not been agressors. Japan has attacked them several times and Europeans have exploited and attacked them as well.
