At work today, I had to go to a client meeting in the afternoon. One of the gentlemen (cleint) at this meeting I don't think was used to wearing a tie. The reason I say this is he managed to tuck the collar underneath his tie in the back, so just about the entire width of the tie in the rear was showing. It stood out a lot as he was wearing a white shirt with a red tie. My question is, how would you tell him of his fasion error? None of his coworkers told him before the meeting and none told him after the meeting either. Is it okay for me to mention something to him even though he is one of my clients for my job?

I didn't tell him anything, but if it were me, I would have appreciated someone telling me as I have had this happen to me in the past, but just as bad.

I guess I would say yes and no. If it were possible for you to tactfully say "your tie seems to have gotten stuck. May I fix it for you?" while you were secluded from other people, and then tuck it under the collar, yes that would be helpful and I think appropriate. Then you could help or he might choose to do it himself. However, in public it would seem more embarrassing for your client if you pointed it out in front of everyone. One of HIS colleagues, family members, friends...even a stranger on the street should have told him before he got to the meeting. I feel for him.

It wasn't a "fashion error". He was probably just rushed. As for your question, he may or may not have appreciated having his mistake pointed out by you. But in general, things like that are only a big deal to people who choose to make them a big deal. So it's probably best not to, and to assume he doesn't either.

I would tell him , just casually mention it. Most people appreciate being told about things like that.

Say nothing.

His co-workers didn't and nor should you. They know him better than you and you are not there to mother him.

Don't tell him, he will find out soon enough. Telling him would embarrass him.
