than other faiths. atheists, agnostics and other "non-major religions" had a lower rate than that. before you get all accusatory, i'm just asking what do you think about this.

I think its amusing. It means their religion doesn't solve everything, and in fact, must make some things worse. If not, the divorce rate wouldn't be so high.

Two reasons:

1. A lot of people are not practicing Christians, they are only Christians by name and if their parents were Muslim or Jewish, they would probably be Muslim or Jewish too (Isn't it weird that these are the same people that go around saying 'Yes, I am 3rd generation Irish Catholic or I am Presbyterian by birth...' What? Anyway, the statistics are not indicative of whether the people getting divorced are practicing or nominal Christians.

2. Due to a distortion of our morals and values, a lot of Christian tenets including those pertaining to marriage have been ignored. People are not as careful as they used to be when choosing a partner and they just rush into marriage. The Bible has strong guidelines on what are grounds for divorce, some divorces are unnecessary when people are just going through a rough time and are actually capable of sticking out and making things work but choose the easy way- running away from their problems. Erosion of our Christian values has also led to bad decision making concerning character and so people just marry anyone without praying about it or considering whether they are actually compatible for the long term.

I'm not a Christian, but I think it is due to the fact that they are the majority in America, so statistically speaking, it fits. However, because that majority is Christian, they probably should have a lower divorce rate. I guess it just shows how many Christians don't even take their own beliefs seriously.

i think part of the answer is that Christians are more likely to actually get married than agnostics or atheists as more Christians have a problem with co-habitation than non-Christians. More marriage means more divorce

Another part of the answer is that that majority (or at least the vast minority) of Americans define themselves as Christian, whether or not they uphold the principles

But honestly I think it is a tragedy that any marriage ends in divorce. I know that there are some situations where it literally becomes a matter of life and death, but generally I think people just get tired of trying and decide to base a decision on emotion which varies ('I just don't feel in love anymore') as opposed to sticking it out. I am very disapointed in my Christian brothers and sisters that they would let a feeling get in the way of what really matters. (It's like Billy Joel says, 'You can love somebody, you can love them forever, but you won't like them everyday)

what god had bound together, let no man put asunder... im not sure of the right words. but god cant seem to keep his binding magic to work

speedywest, i think percentage doesnt care whether there are more samples...but the more the samples, the more accurate the percentage. if you said that there are more christians, i would say the study says that statistically, christians divorce more.

I'm not in the least surprised. They also have a higher incarceration rate. What do you expect from people who need to be threatened with hell in order to behave themselves?

Think it is sad but i believe it started when we took the Bible and its morals out of school in 1960 something. It doesn't surprise me though. In america we have high abortion, Murder and other wicked sin rates are going up because of lack of morals. Its all apart of Gods plan i guess.

Considering that they are the majority religion in the world, it's simply a reflection of that statistic. It doesn't mean anything to me other than that.

I would want to see evidence of this study you're referring to, as well as information on how many people were polled and what method they used in gathering their information.

You can do a study that will prove anything. You can't believe everything you read.
