3 years and my acne is looking worst. I feel
the pain..lol... im only 18 so i am hoping that it will clear up as i get older. It sucks
because i am the only one in my family with acne.
My bro just made fun of my acne a couple of minutes ago
and i wanted to kick his ... but i just try to ignore it..
acne has made me a little depressed but i try to keep my head up
and be happy.

I tried proactiv about 2 years... and it didnt work, should
i try it again though?

i am currently using retin-a (about 4 weeks), it seems like its working
but does anyone know a better solution? and i seriously tried everything
(anti-botics, topical creams..etc

my dem. asked me if i wanted to go on accutane
but i don't really have the $$...plus im kind of scared..

should i just wait it out and continue the retin-a?? any constructive comments
would be nice...

The sad thing here is that stress will actually make acne flare up. this was in an article the newspaper here about a week or two ago. You do appear to be stressing a bit, which is understandable but which should perhaps try to be reduced somehow.

Hormonal changes and diet are the things to look at here. You have not told us anything about your diet - do you eat oily/spicy/fast food etc

The 1st link below claims to fix your acne in 3 days - not sure how much of it is true but the guy has been on tv and in the papers so may be worth taking a look at. It has a full refund so nothing to lose really.

You mentioned that Proactiv did not work for you - reading other acne related posts, it is odd that it didn't. The general complaint is that acne came back once you stopped using Proactiv.

The thing to note now is that you will have to decide on one course of action. I am saying this as putting a multitude of chemicals on your face has gotta take some toll on it.

If the retin-a works, good stuff. Judging by the fact that your dermatologist reccommended accutane, it appears he classes your case as severe acne. I really do not know much about this drug besides what i read and well, it has some very common side-effects that to be honest would make the acne seem preferable. I can see why you would be scared about it. One has to assume here that your prescription will be in limited dosages to minimize these side-effects hopefully.

It has been reccommended recently that exercise may help in reducing acne. It makes some sense - exercising will get your system not only in shape but also rebalance hormonal imbalances and reduce stress - the 2 things that are as stated earlier 2 of the main causes of acne flareups. The increased blood flow and pore workout by sweating will probably help as well here.

Good luck.

NATURAL ACNE PROTOCOL
1/ Never, ever touch your face.
2/ Use 3 facecloths to wash your face, one to soap on, one to soap off with very hot water, one to rinse off with ice cold water, in that order, once a day.
3/ If you are under 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A once a day with a full meal
4/ If you are over 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A twice a day with a full meal.
Do not get pregnant while taking vitamin A. Do not take any more, like Accutane, it will stop you growing.
5/ Never, ever. pick, squeeze or pop your spot. Read number 1 again.
6/ Do this for 90 days.
7/ Invest in a brand new pillow and 2 new or more pillow cases to double bag' your pillow. HOT wash every couple of days.

A bit of advice given to me as a teenager, a bit of science as I am studying allergic reactions and vitamin A is a part of that. A bit of research: I sat in a lecture at the back and watched the acne prone pick at their faces, those with the worse acne touched their faces 32 times in an hour, the clearest complexions didn't touch their faces even once. I have circumstantial evidence that acne is the result of dermatophyte transfer from hands to face...where it does not get washed off and is well fed by hormones, sweat a
nd oil...just a hypothesis... But it would explain why vitamin A is so effective as vitamin causes skin to remove dermatophytes.

The secret is never to touch the spots

I hear ya!! I had some major acne also at the age of 18 I'm now 21 and its gone I got some major scares though. I tried everything but I think what finally did help me was going on birth control and using proactive and time. I know just how you feel. I felt I was the ugliest person ever to hit the planet but just know you are beautiful and the acne will eventually go away. try not to pick at the acne cuz it'll only leave you with some major scares. Good luck

i've had the same problem for years and it's all about trial and error with using certain products... drinking distilled water and taking zinc vitamins helped me a little, but what really helped was triaz face cleanser (bezoyal perocide 3%) and an anti-bacterial.... the anti-bacterial worked wonders (it's prescription only).. i'm starting to think i might have had some kind of infection on my face... good luck!!

drink lots of water every day (if your pee is clear that means that your hydrated) the water will help flush your system

take a multivitamin, acidopholis and fish oil (take the fish oil 2 times a day)

also exercise for at least 30 min. a day

and try cetaphil they sell it at costco and its really good

finally put tea tree oil on your face at night and let it dry then wash it off... or you could do the same thing with lemon juice

hope this helps!!!

I would not try proactiv again. If it didnt work for two years its not gonna magically work this time. I also wouldn't recommend taking pills for it. Keep trying different topical creams and wait for it to go away in a few years.
