Why is that most of the atheist-based questions aimed at Christians sound so mean-spirited and nasty?

Apparently your vaunted tolerance extends only to non-Christian religions. It's true.

Well, you see there are the questions asked by Christians some of them are lame. Then there are the questions asked ABOUT Christians; those are the questions that seem dumb to me. Seriously. People really do ask dumb questions about Christianity. A smart question might be a question about Church history. But a question like- Do you think God is dead? This is NOT a smart or serious question because as a Christian the answer will be no
People who waste 5 points on such utter nonsense deserve whatever ridicule they get. Seriously!

i don't know ways Christian depending questions are "dumb". you're asking a very imprecise question that could nicely be interpreted in a million diverse procedures. the point of asking a question is to make certain an answer, and maximum of the circumstances we are very ignorant. human beings are often ignorant of Christian theology, and they sound like little ones, because it truly is the point of idea in that difficulty to which they have been taught. there is no longer some thing incorrect with them asking likely "stupid" questions, because the more beneficial they ask and discover out the a lot less "dumb" they are going to develop into.

The reason may not surprise you if you give it a little thought. Most of the people who come on this site and ask irrelevant questions about Christ, are usually people who have never read the Bible thoughtfully, or simply skimmed over it. They do so when they want to take some position against God, the Bible, or Christians in general without realizing that to do so, you actually have to defend your position. As to Johny Z's comments, I would agree to a certain extent that some Christians only "read" their Bibles without actually thinking about how they are going to persuade others when challenged about their beliefs. And the Bible does tell them, in 2 Peter 3:15 : "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a "DEFENSE" to everyone who asks you a REASON (justification, explanation of same) for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear." And Johny Z hit it right on the head when he wrote that most Christians simply can't do that. The Word itself tells them to be able to do so, because if you are a Christian in this modern or any age, you're going to be challenged. For the Christians reading this, I would suggest getting online and typing in "The Toulmin Method of argument", and study it closely. They should, if in college, take a debate course and learn as much about it as possible. I certainly did and I'm thankful that I did. I'm finishing a Bachelor's Degree in English, and I 've been studying logic (formal and informal), argument strategies, debate, The Toulmin Method, etc., etc.,. Not blowing my own horn, but I will admit that on occassion I have embarassed people badly who could not give me reasons for why they believe in something-including Christians. I'm a believer myself, but I tend to get irritated when someone makes an assertion about something, and then can't back it up with any evidence or chain of reasoning that's going to at least get my attention. Also, if you'll look at the grammar on this site, that should explain alot in terms of someone's level of thinking. Just go with the flow and ignore the dumb stuff. I know it's irritating, but consider the source.

While what you are saying is very true - I would just like to say that it really only seems to be the fundamentalist/born again/evangelical Christians who seem to be so ignorant and arrogant that their questions sound "dumb". I would not lump the mainstream denominations in with the on the whole...

heh. hold on.

listen. i dont want to sound like an a*s or a broken record...but what im saying tends to generally be true. your average christian doesent look at education as a real importance. sure they can get their high school diploma. that takes nothing but remembering information long enough to put it doen on the test.

most christians arent going to go out and educate themselves. theyre only going to educate themselves with the information they feel theyll need. wether it be for work or......well thats it. just enough to get a good job abd pay the bills.

i doubt there are many born again christians out there with libraries full of books on psychology, the theory of theology and others like that. they simply have their bible, their small community of beleivers and thats it.

do they care whats on the other side of the argument? no. if the information is not relevant to their faith they dont seem to give a sh*t about it.

sounds mean, sounds harsh...but i think its the truth. and it tends to generally be true.

I have to say that there are many wonderful Christians here, like Father K. Unfortunately, you are correct, most of the questions from the religious are indicative of their limited intelligence.

Remember, learning is a bad thing according to the bible. Seriously, the first thing that happens is that Eve eats from the tree of knowledge and their god condemns her for it.

If that doesn't tell you why, nothing will. I'm surprised most of them even go to school at all since it doesn't teach them religion.
