I am going to look at mercedes this week... and I was just wondering how long I should drive a car when I test drive. This is my first car I'm picking out myself... and I've never done a test drive before... so I have no idea what the proper etiquette is. Thanks so much!

Mine usually last until I get sick of hearing the BS from the salesdweeb.

I would say 20 minutes to a half hour would be a good test drive. Take it out on the highway and see the kind of passing power you'll have. Also take it onto a rough road to see how it rides on those types of roads. That will also let you know if you have any suspension problems such as bad ball joints. It will clank over every little bump. Take your time because you might be a little upset if little problems start showing up after you buy it.

They usually just take you around the block. If you can, try to get them to give you a drive agreement because you would like to take it home overnight....that way you can test drive it by yourself for a longer period if you want. I worked at a dealership and we did this all the time. I would do this if buying a high end car. Good Luck!

A good city run, mix it up in some traffic stop and go, then get it out on the freeway, see how it merges and passes. I'd say 30 minutes at least, after all it is an expensive car and you have to get a good feel for it.
