People are religious because they are afraid of going to hell, and spiritual because they've already been.

I heard this quote last night..whats your opinion?

I figure I've been through more than most, I'm Atheist. I have heard this wiccan quote though, and on a general scale it is very truthful, most of those who preach hell have never experienced pain, and the ones they are preaching it to have already been through it or are in it now.

i kindof agree.

ive always gone by my own 2 numbred conclusion.

here it is:

people beleive in god because

1. they have bought into the promise of heaven.
2. they have bought into the threat of hell.

the individual then tends to fill in the rest of the gaps with their own jibberish. but i think those 2 things are pretty much the core of why they beleive.
