if you, as an atheist, don't believe in this "man from apes" nonsense as you put it, where do you stand on where man originated.
this goes to all atheists as well

Just 'cause I don't know the absolute answer to a question doesn't mean that some answers can't still be ruled out.

Saying we evolved from apes simply isn't accurate. Whatever our ancestor was, it wouldn't be properly classified as an ape. It would be like saying that dogs came from coyotes. It's simply not correct. *Common ancestor* is the key word, here. If it's that much of a problem for you to think of being related to apes, then just pick your favorite animal and realize that as some point, way, way back, you're related to them, too. We didn't evolve from anything that's still alive today, but somewhere way back, we did all evolve from the same thing. Personally I think it's kind of nice to think that all life on this planet is related.

Theists (mostly Christians) are the only ones to suggest that man evolved from apes.
The truth is that humans and apes came from a common ancestor.

We share descendancy with chimpanzees, our closest relatives. Not only did we evolve from apes, we are apes.
Apes are any primates without tails, by the way.
What is going on? I'm seeing all of these answers from atheists saying that we aren't apes and that we only have a common ancestor... That is messed up. We came from apes.

I don't know any atheist that doesn't accept the common ancestor/natural selection/evolution bit, and I think Zero c00l accepts that as well. Maybe she was riling against the stupid 'men from monkeys' bit?

Ah, Zero Cool has trancended us mere atheists.
(I'm not disagreeing, you understand)
Apart from that, *neither* creationists nor atheists believe in "man from apes" in the form your question states.
"A common ancestor" for humans and other primates is a more correct phrase.
The evidence appears to be that man's ancestors came "out of Africa", somewhere in the region of the rift valley.

I'm an atheist and I believe in it. BUt we were all originally little organisms in the water in the first place.
I think all atheists believe in that, but I may be wrong.

I accept the theory of natural selection (commonly referred to as evolution), not this weird "man from apes" thing I keep hearing about from Creationists.

Ape is the common term for MODERN primates (chimps, bonobos, gorrilas, humans).
Apes (modern) and humans evolved from a common ancestor, which was a primate (ape-like).
