In other words, is it better to be a monotheist or a polytheist?

Why?

Polytheists are generally more tolerant of others, and less filled with hate masquerading itself as "God's Love".

While I don't agree with either, in my experience, only monotheists are dangerous.

If you were going to believe, you should go with as many as possible. It gives you variety, and better odds.
If one is found socially unacceptable, or as being ridiculous, you can cut them out of the religion, like a coyote in a trap. You don't get stuck defending obvious flaws and impossibilitys like Christians.

Neither.

Both involved faith in something that is logically impossible.

Sorry, my pagan friends, you are typically much cooler than the monotheists out there, at least in your attitude towards those who do no adhere to your same faith, but I don't change my position for you.

Why would an athiest answer this question? A theist, one way other the other believes in a god.. one or many. But an Athiest believes in no god. Why would they worry with which kind of a god is better to believe in, when they don't believe in a god at all?

It's better to believe in and practice good morals...the number of gods it takes for you to be a good person is irrelevant.

I can't say that it's either less or more illogical to believe in one god or many. It all seems about the same to me.

It's rather like asking whether one should believe in only Santa or Santa and the Easter Bunny, too.
