Better ask the Reincarnationists in the life of a Hindu. One reason they may give is that human have evolve 8 million times from the smallest and tiniest atom you can find. I hope your question is a serious one and not a thing to mock someone else. Your question is not stupid if you do not consider the answerer stupid also.

because the environment supporting the soup monkeys is no more; it has changed completely. Remember, natural selection optimises each species for its environment. The environment has changed massively over the course of billions of years. So have the species.
Note I am not saying all life over time must become more complex, there are still simple bacteria and such. This is _because_ we are optimised for our environment. Evolution does not dictate complexity per se. It dictates 'whatever works'.

it's because of the environment. The environment of the earth has changed DRAMATICALLY over the past millions of years. Some species were able to adapt to the new climates, some weren't.
the swimming soup monkeys weren't.
Survival of the fittest my friend...you can see it everywhere in nature.

ah the wonderful education of theists!
i think you people read too many of those chick tracts. obviously we didnt go from soup, then strait to fish, then APES (christians can and will never get that right) and then poofed into humans.
im not going to correct you. simply because i feel that you christians need to educate yourselves. since i know you wont....well....that makes me giggle.
i hope you perpetuate this information to your kids. hopefully theyll drop out after the 5th grade and become a window washer...competing with illegal immigrants.
then all the smart people will prosper, eventually turning beleivers into nothing but a small population of psychotic fanatics, bombing and killing, dwindling their numbers lower and lower until all thats left of them is in the history books. the children reading about them wondering "were people really that stupid"?
and yes.....they were....and are.
WHEW!

Because they could not compete with the evolved species. The trilobytes are gone. So, for that matter, are a dozen or more competitors that arose from H. Sapiens' primate ancestors, all of whom died out -- or were killed off -- by our species.

Your "line" of evolution is a little um off. Stop asking stupid questions. If you define them as stupid, how can anyone else see them otherwise.
