You're allergic to the sun.

Stay covered when you are in the sun, from head to toe. I don't know what causes the sensitivity but maybe an allergist can help you. I know they have needles that desensitize people to certain allergies. I don't know if there is something that would do it for the sun.

Usually people with red hair are very sensitive to the sun, and very, very blonde people too. But what you are describing sounds like hives which is an allergic reaction.

And yes certain medications can make your skin very sensitive to the sun as can some lotions. Likely there are diseases too but I couldn't tell you. Eventually you will want to look into this.

Some medications will make you do that. If you are taking anything, you might want to think about stopping it or staying out of the sun while on it. But since you don't have insurance that probably isn't the case. Try changing your soap and your laundry detergent. And even your lotion could be causing a UV reaction. A dermatologist can help you with this so I recommend you get some insurance unless you want this problem to continue. Also there are some diseases that can cause this to happen such as a blood disease like Porphyria. This website will tell you more about the disease.

Also look up any other skin diseases too.

Photo-sensitivity, which is what you are describing, can be what the medical folks call "discoid"--that means that it is caused by medications.

However, what you describe happening from about age 12, is likely a reaction to sunlight. There are several disease that can cause this. I have an auto-immune disease called Dermatomyositis which is like Muscular Dystrophy and Lupus all rolled into one. I love the winter because I get to dress like everybody else and the sun's rays do not bring on skin rash and muscle ache.

In the summer, I slaver sun block on every bit of exposed skin and do not go out during midday when the sun is at its most powerful. I bought myself a jacket that looks like gauze and protects my skin. I always wear a sun hat and sunglasses, too.

There is very little that can be done about photo-sensitivity except to avoid exposure. Rearranging job schedules and how you run your life is likely going to be the only way that you will stay healthy. You could try to get a job with a good health insurance package!

Are you on any medications that could be causing this reaction?

I have the same problem when I take allergy medicines with a steroid in them. Couldn't figure it out for the longest time, and then finally read the label on the box.

Good luck! I can imagine how painful and frustrating this must be for you..:(

that could be international warming then, would not it. finally the sunlight will amplify and eat the Earth. this might ensue after the sunlight completes burning hydrogen and burns all helium.
