People who say that to you who hardly know you or dont know you are self centered morons. For all they know someone you loved could have just died. They are telling you that not out of concern for you but because they are selfish control freaks who want to control the environment around them for themselves.

People tell me the same thing. I tend to "mean-mug" when out and alone. Not intentionally though. I think some people are just too happy and would like for everybody else to be so happy they go around smiling everywhere too. Sometimes I ask people that tell me to smile, "Why?" Some folks are flirting. This could be the same for you.

When a person smiles it makes them more approachable. Smiling makes me feel very happy. I have friends who have gotten free stuff for smiling --not faking it, but just feeling happy.

People tell me to do that too. I have to get my teeth fixed first. I can't stand when people tell me that? Do you want to see someone smile with messed up teeth?

because they probably think you look better smiling and there not really telling you what to do it's more a suggestion.
