Ok, i'm telling you from experience. What they mean by braces being tightened means that they are going to change your bands (rubber) to a line of bands. Which will make your teeth move closer although there is a lot of pain involved.
They only do this if they see that your bands are getting too loose and your teeth are moving their ways.
P.S- eat soft foods, they will help and not interfere with your gums as they are getting soft for the teeth to move into its correct position.

I found it didn't hurt when they did it, but I had a headache after, so I took an Advil or two before to head it off.
My teeth felt sensitive the next day if I accidently hit them together. Some visits it didn't hurt at all.

hey i also hav braces it doesnt hurt a lot but the pressure will get a couple of days to get used to and it mite hurt a lil to like clench ur teeth and stuff ya no???? hav fun lolz im goin to the orthodontist on thurrrrrrsday

Your teeth will be tender for 2-3 days, then they will adjust to the new tension level.
Take up to 4 Ibuprofen 2x a day, that should keep you feeling ok.
