The fable of the virgin[*] birth always made me queasy. Just as Zeus jumped on hapless girls, the god of the new testement did the same. Rape. Of course alteration was necessary, as normal, healthy sexual intercourse between Joseph & Mary was considered a repeat offense of original sin. But I find the alternative repulsive, and as a woman and a feminist it always angered me.
As someone once said, 'If I'd been the Virgin Mary I have said 'No.' " But rape hardly allowed that option.
Christians, past & present, seem to view immaculate conception necessary. Seems unpleasantly prurient, indeed deviant. How they can not only condone the rape of a young girl by their perfect god
and complacently tell this disgusting, misogynistic myth to their children is beyond me. If anyone ever tells my young niece this trash, my liberal heart will cease to bleed immediatly!
*"virgin" is a mistranslation, changed in the Greek. In the original Hebrew text it means a young woman, a maiden
. When the Jews pointed out this corruption the Greeks took no heed, made no correction. The Catholic Church deliberately stuck to and taught this falsity.
Does this make anyone else nauseated?
(I am speaking of this as myth.)

"twist the truth to support their biases and false doctrine" Doctine is synonymous w/ dogma. As I reject dogma, this is nonsensical riposte.
"The 70's weren't very good to you were they?" :D What wit!
"Since I've always considered the Greek and Roman myths fiction.." Huh? Meaning? You say "myth," Other religions regard yr bible as myth."if you go read the Gospel.." I have. Also, The Illiad. Quoting yr holy book leads to cirdular arguments. Not an answer.
"In Latin, the word "fiat" is used, meaning "let it be." And, in the Greek NT Jesus is calledThe Son of Humanity, *not* the Son of Man. Yet fundie Christians persist in saying the latter. As they're adamantly opposed to women preaching, it serves them well."If you...don't know the difference between rape and immaculate conception, then there's really nothing anyone can say to you which you would comprehend"Mary's was the IC. Quoting yr scripture-pointless. Having clobberd a rapist senseless,I'm quite familiar, ty.

I unknowingly posted this twice. My apologies. Was using a rent-a-wreck and have made many mistakes on the internet w/ it.
Having posted twice, however inadverdently, I can't choose a best answer. I'm very unfamiliar w/ this forum but I suppose the right thing would be to delete this one (?). My apologoes to those who answered, whatever our differences.
PS: In mentioning the IC I wasn't referring to the birth of Jesus. The IC pertains to the "virgin" mary.
