I worked at a small daycare called Scott's Daycare in northeastern Pa. I got paid about $6.50 an hour. There were no benefits. I worked with newborn up to 3 years old. Care giver to child ratio was 2:1 for infants(2 infants per 1 worker). 5:1 for toddlers, and 10:1 for preschoolers.
Cleanliness was a major issue. We sanitize everything twice a day with bleach water, we had to watch 6 hours of safety and training videos (boring but useful, I guess). Every safety incident from a scratch to severe bleeding had to be documented and signed by the parent.
When I was having my interview, I was asked alot of hypothetical questions, and was hired by answers to these questions. When dealing with children, it is best to rationalize with them, pick your battles carefully. If we corrected every little thing the child did wrong we would be settling fights all day. We would watch to see if a problem got resolved by itself, example...two kids fighting over one toy, and if it didn't, we would intervene.
I thought we always had an abundance of activities and materials. The kids were never bored, we always tried to encorporate learning into everyday activities.
Our daily schedule went something like this.
6:30, open
6:30-8:30, quiet time, videos, stories(a lot of kids are still groggy this early in the morning.
8:30, breakfast
9:00 independent play(dress up, trucks, dolls, etc.)
10:30, learning time(letters, numbers, etc.)
11:30, lunch time, lunch was prepared by a staff member
12:00-3:00 nap time(this was torture)
3:00 snack time
3:30 outside time, weather permitting
4:30 group activity, (duck, duck, goose, etc. that promotes taking turns and sharing
5:00, clean up and good-byes
I quit because they charged me to bring my children, it was 1/2 price, but by the time I paid for gas and everything, I wasn't making very much.
I use these same schedules and ideas when I started my home daycare.
Hope this helps.

I work in a Head Start. I am a teachers assistant. I started at 8.07hr, The ration that we follow for our 3-5 year olds is 10 kids to 1 at the minimum, with no more than 20 kids in one classroom. I clean the mats once a week. I clean all the toys once a week. The tables have to be washed after every activity. And alll the washing is done with nothing other than bleach and water. The bleach to water ratio is 2 tablespoon per Spray bottel. For saftey, we always have to keep a head count. And an adult will not leave a building with a child unless they are another teacher, or unless they are on the childs pick up list. I don't have anything for a philisophoval approach. They provide us with a pretty good amount of matterials. And the activiteis are ment to be mind stimulating and fun. I hope this helps

My daughter is in daycare complete time besides, yet as quickly as I have been on your footwear, i might. I grew up in the country without close neighbor childrens. My purely playmate become my brother and my 2 cousins who I observed a pair of times a month. i did no longer work together with the different newborn in any respect til I entered kindergarten. i become particularly shy and backwards my entire early existence. To on the present time i think awkward around new human beings. I certainly have continuously been an introvert and a loner. My brother is the same way and that i in my opinion think of this is b/c we weren't socialized as babies. there are a lot of human beings on right here that are anti-daycare, yet i've got in no way had any themes with it. in case you come across a great, respected daycare your newborn will do nice. Mine has long gone to a similar one for 3 yrs and sees a similar females and a similar childrens on a daily basis. She has grown up with a collection of babies and that they are her ultimate acquaintances. they are all a 2d kinfolk to her. She is our purely newborn at abode fulltime and she or he would not get a good number of socialization in any different case. If I had my mom or MIL shop her, she would not see different childrens. i admire the reality that she attracts, colorations, learns letters, music, etc at daycare too. on a daily basis she has come abode with something new she has found out. i be attentive to she'll be extra effective than arranged for college. As for illnesses, she gets a chilly or a abdomen virus approximately as quickly as a 300 and sixty 5 days. i think of all childrens wade by using that regardless. She has been on an antibiotic one time in her existence and desires to be certain a doctor as quickly as a 300 and sixty 5 days for an ailment if that.
