yes depression can be,unfortunately its probably a weakness in the genes and theres nothing you can do about that, however what you can do is look at the triggers that start your depression or those blue moods that just don't lift, and accept what and who you are and start enjoying life its too short, try and put everything into perspective, believe me if you have a particular problem, then there is always someone out there that is hurting and dealing with something worse. I suffered from depression for years and its so hard, but now I enjoy every moment I can and if something bad happens, I look at it in a positive way and think what did I learn from that, don't beat yourself up over past mistakes or things that are out of your control, its a waste of time

All of the research that I have done suggests that depression can be genetic. There are many different factors. In my case my doctors believe that mine is genetic. Too many people in my family have a range of these type of disorders for it to be anything else.

There is a genetic factor in depression. Hard to say whether or not that is whats going on with your family. The most important thing is to get treatment. Talk to your doctor

In my opinion I think depression is partly hereditary but I also think that environment has a part to play in it. Different experiences, learnt behaviour and the way we cope with stressors also has a role in fueling depression. I have suffered serious bouts of depression for over 20 years now and that is the conclusion I have come to about it. I am the only one in our family who is willing to openly admit I suffer from it, but I know there are more members of my family with it, they just won't acknowldge it! More fool them, I say.

I don't think depression is genetic. It usually just happens when you are in a severely negative emotional state that can really hurt. Maybe the reason you and your brother and sister are in that situation is because you all feel very down about something big.

My boyfriend suffers from depression, and we just found out that his brother has been hiding his depression.
I definitely think it is genetic.

Partly genetic, partly circumstantial. I know how you feel-believe me. But you can get help...naturally even!!! Ask you physician about changing your dietary and excercise habits and taking St John's Wart before you go into Rx. Also try getting outdoors in the sun around 7am each morning for at least 15min. Get support from family and friends.
Hope You Feel Better...hugs!!!
