That cheap bastard should follow their (Gates & Buffett's) lead & help his own people, then maybe his country would be better off & they wouldn't want to take such risks to come here. What a selfish loser!

This really shows how corrupt Mexico is and how difficult it must be to create wealth, to raise the supply of goods and services by trying to enter a mexican market as a competitor, only to come up against the interest and favour system of corruption.
Slim is someone who is taking advantage of the system of close relationships and favours granted between the ruling elite, who own most of Mexico's production.
A rotten system at the top with the ruling poltical elite rubbing shoulders with businessmen, granting each other favours, keeps Mexico poor, as they collect the economic rents from monopolies across a range of goods and services.
Is it ever going to change?
'The breakthrough deal for Carlos Slim was his takeover with other investors in 1990 of Telmex, at that stage still the state-owned incumbent telephone company.
The company held a monopoly on the fixed-line network in Mexico, Latin America's largest economic player.
Auditors valued Telmex at USD 10-12 billion. Slim took control of the company for USD 1.7 billion, paying roughly 80 cents per share. At the end of April 2004, Telmex shares were trading at over USD 34.
The sensation caused by the takeover of Telmex was not restricted to Mexico.
Slim was accused of enjoying more than just a passing acquaintance with the then president of Mexico, Carlos Salinas de Gortari.
The fact that Slim nurtures good relations with politicians and is not afraid to use his connections is illustrated by another example: last year he donated USD 50 million to pay for the restoration of the old town in Mexico City. In exchange, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the mayor of what is probably the largest city in the world, granted Slim the pre-emptive right to purchase a number of buildings in the inner city.
Of course, once the renovation of the city center was completed (paid for by Slim's millions), the buildings in question were worth considerably more than Slim's initial investment.
Amlo (the popular nickname in Mexico for Mayor Lopez Obrador) is not only a close friend of Slim, he is also currently the front runner to succeed President Vicente Fox in the next presidential election.'

To my opinion, people like Carlos Slim are one of the causes for the condition of countries under development. Mexico has probably as many or more resources than the United States; however, the vast amount of money is in the hands of a very small percentage of the population. This causes the high-class to be relatively large, the low-class to be enormous, and the middle class to be extremely tiny. If it wasn't for people like Carlos Slim, maybe Mexico would not still be as wealthy as the United States, but the conditions would be much better closer to those of Canada. Of course, it's not only the rich people that do this, there are also different causes like: control of national industries by foreign countries, political instability and corruption, lack of education, etc..
Just a small note: all you people who burst hatred out as soon as you see something bad about Mexico should reconsider and research why their conditions are as they are. By blaming them and insulting them you earn nothing more than they do by burning American flags.

Well that's not surprising, that's why Mexico is in the shape it's in because a few have everything and everyone else has nothing,
and that's where America is going if we don't start making changes. Also many in this world think the US is stupid for offering aid to countries, and I'm beginning to agree with them.

In a way, it might be. If the rich in Mexico have no regard for the poor, that may be partly responsible for little or no progress in the job opportunities, schools and infrastructure for the poor in Mexico. Those are the people who come here.
