I have sat here and asked questions many times , and observed something that happens here
which I am sure happens all over the world
when someone tries to heal differences with people ( Christian , Muslim etc )
they are met with a he said , she said type answer
most of this goes back hundreds of years
attrocities happening just now are the results of stuff that goes back hundreds of years
will you be one of the ones to end this viscious circle ?
will you let by gones be by gones and start from today ?
will you extend your hand to others without any preconcieved thoughts about their past or the past history of their religion/beliefs ?
why can't we be the generation who makes this happen ?

I wish you the best Pangel, because my generation didn't accomplish what we set out to accomplish during the summer of love.

Perhaps we focused too much on stopping "the war" (Vietnam) rather than stopping "the reasons for war". Perhaps your generation can do better. I certainly hope so, for my children's sake.

It's always easy to find some reason to hate, to hurt. None of us is perfect and no group of us is perfect. And yet, as Jesus said, we focus on the mote in the other person's eye while ignoring the beam in our own. We are too quick to condemn. We find it too easy to use our condemnation as an excuse for confrontation.

I would ask only one thing of you. Don't give up your dream. Even if your generation fails like so many have in the past, at least you can pass the dream on to the next generation. Someday some generation may succeed.

Peace.

What a wonderful question. What a wonderful concept. Let’s end the vicious circle and find peace. Let’s stop the vicious attacks and malicious competition. Help and be helped. Love and be loved. Yes, let’s make our generation the one to make this happen. I’ve always dreamed of living and learning in a utopian society. One in which there is no moral strife, no war and everyone leads a good, moral life. I highly recommend reading Thoreau’s Walden II. Can you imagine living and learning in a community where self-control is taught and there is no competition or jealousy? This generation has so much potential, so many opportunities. The last generation had them – the next generation will too. Until mankind is able to control his conditions he will not see order. Let’s just boil it down to “Why can’t we be friends” and sing “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing in Perfect Harmony.” If we could get the majority of folks to do this and believe, we’d have it made.

Is that the viscous circle where we are stuck in the treacle or the vicious circle where we keep biting our own arses? Both really I suspect. Anyway the only difference today is our culture and technology, I suspect the fear of atomic war has stopped many of our leaders from embarking on a land grabbing exercise and a free media has stopped them keeping the reality of war from their people. Anyway freedom of money, travel and domicile has taken the need to conquer away. The Russian elite now live in London, in the best houses, together with the Arab and Jewish elites and not a shot was fired.

Hello, i believe words either come from the head or the heart and listening for the difference can tell us a lot...when words come from the heart they can melt even the hardest heart of an enemy.
These are some of Jesus teachings, you probably know...

Who among you can cast the first stone...

Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you..Bless those who curse you and pray for those who mistreat you...

Do to others as you would have them do to you:

Do not judge or you will be judged:

Do not condemn or you will be condemned:

Give and it will be given to you, because the measure you give will be measured to you:

I know Christians are disliked by some, but our teacher can not be ridiculed He is saying the same as you dear sister, and said it 2000 yrs ago...shalom...

PS: i've just read a question from poster
ste-phunny..."why is it that most of the Christian based questions sound so dumb" i've read the answers to, i wonder if they will read your Q and take the first step...just a thought...

I do not know who you are and that is fine, but I do share you desire to make amends in a wounded world. My friend do not let the roars of tragedy and discord overpower the true hope and works of good people. Good people and the deeds done by them in God is not mentioned in our world (much less the media) because it is not as sensational as troubles and woes (according to them). Yet, I assure you that there are many who work along with you to make this a better world according to the divine plan of God. I, myself, have comitted my whole life to this end and there are millions of others like you and me. As the mystic Julian of Norwhich was fond of saying all through her suffering and terrible visions, "All is well."
Look at it this way to restore hope within you. At least the whole world is still civilized. If not then we all would have been destroyed a lot sooner than expected. The world still turns and people are still good because there is a God in it all. I pray that you and I will always remain good examples to all no matter the insults, suspicions, and the dangers love and decency may lead us to. You have to remember that we are sent into the world and are not to avoid it. Our love must go to the troubled areas because that is where love is to heal the world's wounds. So remain good mannered, decent, compassionate, loving, and kind to all you meet. And remember just because those who are ill mannered, faithless, or indifferent are loud does not mean they are numerous.
May the Lord bless and keep you. May He let the light of His face shine upon you.
God's and your beast of burden
Father john

Northern Ireland seems to have quelled the violence. Some thought that would never happen. President Clinton played an important role in the Good Friday accords. The Middle East is the most un-educated place on the planet. That in itself should tell you something.

I am partly in agreement with you, but only partly.
The history of a person or of a movement determines, to some extent, his or its future.
On the other hand, I don't see any point in throwing history up to people's face. People who refer to past Muslim violence, and then identify themselves as Christian .... embarrassing! because we have a sad history too.
So it is best to just discuss our beliefs without finger-pointing and arguing about who has done the most crimes in the past.
In fact, often, the finger pointing is simply a way of avoiding having to think through the arguments for or against a particular belief system.

Yes, I often lose interest once the flame wars begin Pangel dear.

It's a great thought that if only one generation rejected the kneejerk response it could be forgotten forever after.

Then the words of scripture would become fulfilled Micah 4:3.

That's why I'm one of your fans Pangel... your optimism is just sweet.

We'd all have to let go of our ego-laden concepts of who's right and who's wrong and all the other stuff that goes with it... some people can and some people can't. A lot of people really are born and raised in a vacuum where ignorance is enforced and so intolerance goes on... other people are raised in hell and they can't see anything else but the pain and suffering of constant terrorism on any side of the argument and the anger keeps building...

Lots to it, but I'd like to say you make a nice example of it... PEACE that is...

Some would change, some will not at this time, and new ones would always come along. I know it's sick to hear the child like stuff over and over again. But I believe they, we are all learning, some are at different levels of life long learning, some would always be in diapers. That's why I do believe in Reincarnation due to it takes the soul many life times to learn enough to come close to knowing part of God's wisdom.
