I'm just moved to a new town and interested in attending a UCC. I don't have a history of going to church (even when I was little - our family didn't go) so I don't know the etiquette. Do I need to call first to tell someone I'd like to come and check the service out?

No, just go. A lot of church's, like mine for instance, have a welcome center as you first walk in. There is always someone there to welcome newcomers. We give out a welcome gift bag filled with goodies and a map of the church (it would be terrible if you couldn't find the bathroom). They help you find programs and activities suited to your age and interests. If you're nervous, invite a friend to go with you, it's always nice to have at least one person you know when you are somewhere unfamiliar.

specific. i'm Catholic, and my church had a service final evening. We call it the Easter Vigil Mass. Seeing as Catholics and Episcopalians have lots in simple, I think of it became into very comparable. We began outdoors the church with a small bonfire made out of the dried up hands from final twelve months's Palm Sunday. From this fireplace we lit the Paschal candle, and then from the Paschal candle the entire congregation lit guy or woman candles. Then all of us went back into the church, which became into thoroughly dark apart from our candles. We had an prolonged service with 7 previous testomony readings (accomplished in 6 diverse languages!), one Epistle, and one Gospel analyzing. As we've been making a music the Gloria, which comes suited until now the transition into the recent testomony, the lights interior the church have been all became back on. We celebrated the sacraments for 8 catechumens, and then the entire parish celebrated the Eucharist. Afterwards, we had an Easter meal at the same time until now walking out from the brightly lit church into the dark of the early morning, Christ's exhilaration radiating into the international. would you have a impressive Easter.

You should feel free to go without calling. But you should know that the UCC is a very liberal and non-Biblical church. If you want to find a church that believes in God and the Bible go elsewhere.

No, you don't need to call. It could be interesting for you to make contact with the pastoral staff, but normally people just go to church.

You don't have to call ahead, but if you would feel more comfortable talking with someone before hand and asking them to show you around I think that would be a great idea.

Nope. They might ask whoever's new to fill out something or stand up, but that's just so everyone can greet you and try to get to know you. Everyone should be quite friendly.

no, you dont need to call and make an apointment or anything to go to church. its a public kinda deal, so the only times when you cant go are when they're not holding mass.
