Same at my college, and I mean I couldn't tell the difference between anyone, but I suppose it's how you can recognise a good mate at a distance, with bad eyesight, by a bag they carry, a way they walk, or a shape of them. But seriously, i'd struggle.
Don't want to make this a religious debate, but I get the feeling it's a real shut-off from the world, very unapproachable and intimidating.

Eyes tell a lot about a person, you can recognize people by their eyes. That's why in some photos, the eyes are blocked out to prevent recognition.
Even so, a person's voice is unique enough that it can be used to tell people apart.

In the town where i live in USA, i am the only lady who covers from head to toes, with only my eyes and my eye-glasses showing. This is how other ladies recognize me. Also, my 2 boys are always with me when dh is at work. So when they see my little boys when we walk outside, they know it is me for sure. No mistake.
Your question is a smart one.

When you see someone walking away from you, can you still recognize them? Humans use many clues, not just faces, to recognize people they know. Height, weight, the color and shape of the eyes, the way people walk--all are small clues that tell us who people are, even if we can't see all their features.

We don't just need eyes to see, they have sound, smell, and I'm not being funny think how a blind person can tell, and course with their eyes they would know the shape of the person

Size and shape tell a lot. Or, they may have set out on their shopping trip together. But it is a good question.
