Hi! I was washing dishes and had, stupidly, put a pair of scissors in the water. I cut a chunk of skin off of the side of my pinky finger. I've been putting Neosporin on it everyday and have kept it covered. This happened last Thursday and it still looks pretty much the same. Should I keep it covered all the time? My husband says I should let it dry out. My daughters dermatologist told us to keep her cuts moist to promote healing but my husband insists that he's right. Thanks for your advice! : )

I don't know any dermatologist who would recommend keeping a cut moist?? It's totally open to bacteria then. You're not giving it time to form a scab, so it's not protected from bacteria. The moisture also actually promotes bacterial growth. Keep it dry. Wash it often, dry it, let it be.

If you use your hands for something that would cause them to be constantly dirty, then, yes, cover while performing these tasks. Remove the bandaid after you are finished though.

If you notice any redness or the cut is getting swollen, get to a doc --these changes indicate infection.

let it air dry as much as possible it WILL heal much faster than being kept covered... by keeping it moist you are asking for infection sweetie.. Your hubbys right on this one.... I had a blister yesterday.. and I kept in uncovered all day long and it drys up and forms a scab wayyyy quicker than if i had it covered up by a bandaid... let it air dry ;o)
