My daughter was introduced to a spoon around 14 months. She didn't do too well because she tried to stab her food like she saw us do with a fork, so we gave her one and she did fine with it.

By 1 yr they should be familiar with the spoon and fork. Now that doesn't mean they will get every bite into their mouths. The usually do pretty well with a spoon though. By 3 they should be doing very well with either. I have 3 children.

I gave my daughters a spoon and fork around 10 months, but they needed help still with eating. They really did not get the hang of it until after they were a year old, around 18 months or so and they still were very messy with it.

all the books say at about a year you should star letting them hold a spoon or a fork, though a spoon would be a better choice. Don't get discouraged if they don't get it right away and give lots of incouragement and they'll do find, it might get a bit messy so don't give them a lot to start with. Good luck!

8-9 months started letting them hold the spoon. After a year they were feeding themselves. Now they are using a fork by themselves.

we've given the spoon as an option from approximately 8 months+, it went disregarded every time for dinner till approximately 9-10 months, and now at 11 months a minimum of one or 2 bites of each meal she scoops up with a spoon or spork. It need no longer be soupy or pureed, gentle vegetables or small products are easily scooped. i would not difficulty the two way, see you later using fact the choice to apply that's there.

They started "trying" around 9 months but didn't succeed at all (usually starting out with one but soon abandoning it for hands) until around 12-15 months and continued learning to handle the utensils better later. If your child isn't there yet, it's definitely nothing to worry about. Unless he's 4 years old and can't hold a spoon. Then it's time to call the doc.
