Sudden unexplained weakness or inability to move the back legs can very often mean a problem with the lower spine. If you don’t start treatment within 24 hours, it may become permanently paralyzed. The longer you wait, the more likely treatment won't work.
If you “already know,” you need to take him to the vet, then you need to take him to the vet. It doesn’t take a great mind to figure that out.

Sorry to hear about your dog. The best thing for you to do is to locate an animal hospital. Find a phone directory or go on line to look for a facility near you. Some folks have left some callous remarks and I am sorry that they feel like they have to preach at you or worse. Remain calm, keep your dog still and find a 24 animal hospital. The longer you wait the more your dog will be in discomfort. Have some one come over to help you out, whether it be a friend or a neighbour. Keep the dog still and comfort him. Good luck with everything. Let us know how you made out.

Not a whole lot you can do but see a vet... sorry.. he needs a vet to examine him... it could be sooo many things... he needs a hands on exam... people here in answers can only give suggestions... that will never replace seeing a vet in person... he needs to go right away... it could have been anything from a stroke to ???? He might need to be put to sleep... he sounds like he is in bad shape... I am so sorry....hope everything goes well....
EDIT: I am sorry you are having such a hard time.... but your dog really needs to be seen... call and if $$ is an issue then some hospitals will work out payment plans or take post dated checks....I feel for you and it sucks that you are having to go thru this.... good luck

Until you can get him to the vet - keep him in his crate and don't let him move around too much - take him outside only to go to the bathroom then right back in his crate. Use a towel as a sling to help support the back, almost as if you were carrying a bag...It could be hip problems, a ruptured disk or any number of things, but you MUST keep him quiet until you get a vets opinion!

if you know the answer why post the question? if your hips weren't working, and you were dragging yourself around I'd take you to the doctor. Maybe the hip joints have a problem, or some nerve damage has happened. I"m not saying euthanize at the vets, but proper support for the sweet dog would be appreciated by him I'm sure.
Not being able to get up or down is probably stressing him out too. find a quite spot to rest and not try to get up, while you work out the visit logistics. But inability to get to the food bowl, you, and even going to the bathroom is not the option.

My dog had something similar. Only in his case he was paralyzed in the face and front legs. It turned out to be a nerve infection that was treated with antibiotics.
Oh, and take him to a vet.

In not a vet so I can't tell you what is wrong with him but I can suggest a web site he may need wheels to put on the back of his legs to help him get around =(
Sorry about your dog I know it must hurt to see him like that!

He could be having Auditory-triggered spasms Another consideration would be hypoglycemia. This can cause transient loss of consciousness and signs that look like
neurologic signs (seizures, muscle tremors) in some dogs.
High blood pressure can sometimes cause similar signs.
With his age it could be a number of things.
I suggest that you get him to a vet ASAP.

if you have heard of the book wheely willy, there is a puppy named willy. (this is a true story) until your puppy gets worse, you might want to buy him a puppy invention that picks up his legs. as long as his arms work fine, then it will be really easy for him to pull himself. make him calm down until you get this invention. it will really help. especially since he has already thought up the idea to move with his front legs! good luck! i wish the best to your dog and all of my love!
