I plan to buy a certified pre-owned 2004 Z4 within the next few weeks. Most of the cars that I'm finding at dealerships are listed around $29,000.

Since I'm paying cash/check, what is a realistic figure to negotiate off this price? Is 10% too much/little?

Most of the cars are lease returns with a trade-in value around $23k. Should I aim for a final price in the $25k-$26k range?

Thanks for your help. Not sure if BMW negotiates like other used car dealers.

all used car dealers negotiate the same

expect to spend a long time at the dealership in order to get a good price.. if the car you are looking for is a car that is hard to find, expect to pay at least $2000 more for it than what they got it for.. if it is a car that is more easily found, and there are a lot of dealerships in the area that have similar ones, you can get away with paying about $1000 more for it

one thing you can do is to ask to see the paperwork on it.. they wont always show it to you, and if they dont, you should say thanks and start walking out of the dealership.. trust me, theyll stop you before you take two steps

but the paperwork will show you what they bought it for, what they put into to get it checked out, and anything else they spent on it.. and then just negotiate what price youre going to pay over it

seen it done, and it actually worked out well for all involved

good luck

I just bought a used 2004 325i from an auction dealer for $22,000, when I saw my same exact car being sold at dealerships for $27,000. If you look on Yahoo Autos you may find your car for much cheaper. All BMW's have the original warranty up to 50,000 miles on the car and it's so awsome - they pay for EVERYTHING. My brake pads needed replacing and they did it free. Just try to get a car that has as few miles on it as possible so you have the warranty as long as you can.

On a certified bmw, with the factory warranty to 100000 miles, expect to get about 1000-1500 off the asking price. No way are you getting a used bmw for 1000 over what they paid for it, that guy is smoking something.
