being the pet of multiple cats (they own you, they let you live in their house and pay the bills), i have seen some cats not give a hoot about it and some go totally wild, some eat it,
some roll around in it and some act like they have just drank
a fith of jack danials whiskey. if you feel the need to intoxicate
your cat, try to get the good stuff, not that powdery hertz crud that has been sitting on the shelf since noah let the cats off of the boat. the fresher the better. you can even grow your own(yes it's legal), and then the cat may let you stay another month in it's home.

I made the mistake of giving our cat , catnip, and wow, he was like bouncing off the wall.I do not remember if the cat ate it, but we made him a catnip mouse, that he really loved. Yes it purks the kitty's up, but sometimes too much. The catnip mouse was simply a cloth bag made to look like a mouse somewhat, then we put the catnip inside, and sewed it up, and the kitty loved it.

If you think of catnip as "pot for cats," you'll have a pretty good idea. :-)

The particular reaction depends on the cat. Some get mellow; some get hyper. A tendency I've noticed is that cats who eat their catnip get mellow and the smellers get crazy.

My orange cat does both: he gets extremely hyper and then has to sleep off his "high." I've seen him get so stoned that he couldn't walk!

My cats get really hyper and start rolling around the floor and purring. They try to rub their noses into the catnip as much as possible and generally look as if they're experiencing sheer bliss. It's the funniest thing I've ever seen!

Well, I am sure that it affects each cat in a different way. My cats get very hyper and they rub and rub on anything that it is on. They just smell it, they don't eat it. It can make even the most lazy cat into a very active one! The package says its all natural, so it is good for them and they love it! I am sure it will make your cat hyper.
