Well, if you believe in solipsm, then nothing exists and everything, even your own body is an illusion created by your own mind to substantiate reality. Personally I think that's nonsense, cause if that was the case and everything is my illusion, trust me, it'd be a much better illusion. So, I guess the simple answer as to how do you know if anything really exists, is that you don't. But I think you'll find that if you choose to believe that nothing really exists, it will not do you any good in escaping from the world and it's people. So why bother? If you can see it, taste it, touch it, hear it, smell it, then as far as your brain is concerned, it's real. If you are really interested in pondering deeper into this subject, I suggest that you look into quantum physics, as a good part of it deals with the particular subject of reality.

Although that may seem like an air headed question, I completely understand. Kinda like a Matrix thing isn't it? However, other than the philosophic statement, 'I think therefore I am', the only other thing I can suggest to validate reality in existence is FAITH. Hope that helps.

That was Samuel Johnson's solution. When asked how he could refute Bishop Berkely's argument for the nonexistence of matter, he kicked a stone saying "I refute it thus."

Descartes used cogito ergo sum (I think therefore I am) as his basis.

I can't answer that since I can't guarentee that you exist.
