I am interested in why it is OK to use different Bible versions. A lot of people say that you can only use the kjv, and I have heard plenty of info supporting that-now I would like to know if anyone has info on why it doesn't matter if you use other translations. Thanks for all the help!

They both say the same thing , just worded different . your own question answers your own question, they are both just "Translations " Of what was not in English to start with . God has the power and ability to use both . or any other translation that tells the Truth and does not change the meaning of what it says. why do people try to limit the power of God? The Truth is The Truth . besides , where in the Bible does it say that God said, the KJV version is the only version to be used ? answer , nowhere. I think what it says is" to not add to or take away from" , which means to not change the meaning of.

It doesn't really matter what Bible you read. Most Bibles still have the gospel in it and therefore can teach you about salvation. As far as studying goes, I would use the KJV. It was translated from the original Greek and Hebrew languages and all the other versions were translated editions from the KJV. The KJV for the most part is the mother version that the other ones have used for their source. Notice the KJV has no copyright and all the others do. So for studying you will be able to get a more accurate definition of what the context is because you have the option to go back and look at the greek and Hebrew if you want. It is not necessary though as they translated it correctly so we don't have to do that.

NIV is a translation bible. KJV is a the most used version of the bible. There is no wrong or right bible to use. Some people have issues with the different bibles because sometimes when people rewrite things they tend to put their own observation and it's like telling you what they believe. But if you are truly trying to study the word of God you should get many Bibles. Like the old peole say, "build your library".

You can't pick up the Bible and read it like a newspaper. The Bible is the Living Word of God. 1 Corinthians 2:14 says, "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." 2 Timothy 3:16 says, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness..." The Scriptures were written by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and they must also be read with the same unction from the Holy One. The KJV version is hard to understand for some people because they are trying to do it without the help of the Holy Spirit. We must remember John 4:24 "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."

I only read the KJV, the other "Bibles" have been mis translated and if you read carefully, you will notice they lose the meaning of the original text. We're not to add or take away from the Bible and I feel these 'new" translations do that.

The KJV is a beautiful translation, but it is hard for many people to understand. The NIV is translated into simpler and more modern English. It is one of thee better translations from the late 20th Century.

Hi Rachel,

Pray for the Holy Spirit before you start any type of bible study. Especially comparatives between versions, some people are very rigid when it comes to their version. I have found the KJV the best version, but not a completely infallible translation.

The NIV has many glaring inconsistencies for example compare the two versions of

NIV
EX 20V5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,

KJV
EX 20V5Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me

The NIV mischararcerizes God by stating that he directly punishes the children for the sins of the fathers.

Does that make sense? No. The KJV gives us the truth that God visits the iniquities of the fathers upon the children, when those fathers rebel against God.

That is the cycle of sin repeats itself and the children are subject to the example of a sinful father, not a punishing God.

Great harm has been done in that incorrect rendering of the character of God.

Let me know if you want more studies of this I have quite a file on it.

May the Holy Spirit guide you into all truth in JESUS name,

Andrew

NIV = translation. KJV = translation. Both are actually translations of translations. So what's the difference? The Septuagint and the Vulgate are as close as you can get to the originals.

I don't see a problem. I grew up reading the KJV, but it does get a little awkward in places--the language is outdated too. If another translation is easier for a person, esp. a new convert, to understand then I say read the one that's clearer to you.

The Niv perverts the bible by changing and excluding words . Changing a word can change the true meaning of the verse . The Niv eliminates or changes over 5,000 words
