Yes and no.

If you go out and buy things that make you happy, yes.

If you entertain yourself at home for free, no.

I would hardly call this self-indulgent. A little pleasure is good for the soul. It is greed and the lust for money that are the problems, along with using people for your own ends to make money off them for yourself--e.g. paying someone minimum wage to do a job like farm labour, housekeeping, moving furniture, landscaping, cooking, dishwashing, etc. And yet, the teenagers at Wal-mart roll their eyes because they have to scan goods and collect cash while bagging. Ooooo...so difficult for minimum wage....

It costs no money to give or receive a hug (hopefully you don't pay money for that : )

"Happiness" can be attained without spending a cent! Try taking a walk, hugging your kid, helping someone, reading a book! Cripes...I can't believe how addicted people are to money!

Yes... we think such things will bring us happiness, however the impermanent nature of all things really puts a dampener on it... not really "happiness" after all...

Yeah, but you can pleasure yourself for free. Just don't do it in the theater (as Pee Wee Herman learned).
