My son just recently went to the Dr's and is now being refferred to a neurologist at Shand's hospital (FL). He had an EEG done & there was no abnormalities, but I really believe something is wrong. Can a child have petit mal seizures that do not show up on an EEG? I have been researching them & it sounds like that's what's going on. He will be sitting there playing with his toys (or eating, etc) & all of a sudden he wil start rolling his head side to side & his eyes go back in his head(like he can't focus), but he doesn't lose conscieness. After he is done (about 10-30 seconds) he will resume doing whatever it was that he was doing as if nothing had happened. He often loses balance & falls & hits his head or arms and in result he's always got bruises. The Dr said that they cannot see anything wrong with him & I dunno, maybe I'm just looking too hard into it. They said it could possibly be something he does for attention or out of habit. But nothing I can see triggers it. Help!Any ideas

As a worried mother, even though I am not one myself, I totally understand how paranoid you can get with mental conditions of your child. However, my baby cousin had almost the exact same thing. He always hit his head, couldn't focus on people, would be rolling his eyes, and would go back to what he was doing. I think that it is good that you are doing research, but my cousin's "condition" cleared up in about 4 months. It could just be a phase he is going through. It does not hurt to go and get check ups, but I do not think your child has any immediate emergency. Let me know if you need to know more. (Email: rafafan612@yahoo.com)

MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia: Petit mal seizure
A petit mal seizure is a temporary disturbance of brain ... A single or multiple EEG exams may be necessary to show changes typical of petit mal seizures. ...www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000696.htm -
As above, the fact that it doesn't show up on an EEG doesn't rule it out; it only says it was not occurring during the study.
Also from that site: A single or multiple EEG exams may be necessary to show changes typical of petit mal seizures. Occasionally, a patient may need to have EEG monitoring from 1 to several days to detect these EEG changes.
Various laboratory tests, a head CT scan, or a head MRI may be used to rule out specific causes of the seizures.

My son had seizure when his temperature went up, and apparently this can happen, just from rising temperature. So for maybe a year they had me give him phenobarbital (?), as I remember, to prevent it happening again, and he's fine today, grown, with no more problems. I hope you have good luck!

Chuck E. Cheese could be a profitable place, whether it may be extra of a "take a girl baby and pass away your son in the back of with a be conscious" rather of an unquestionably commerce. Your son would be high quality as long as you supply him a number of of tokens to coach how plenty you like him. only understand which you won't be able to commerce back whilst your 15 3 hundred and sixty 5 days old daughter comes abode pregnant, or turns right into a stripper. you're on your guy or woman.

there may not be anything wrong with him, but i would seek a second opinion. if you truely feel there is something wrong with your child, i would get a whole lot of doctor's opinions about what is wrong. good luck!
