Well first of all, consider why he was incarcerated for 10 years. This could reveal a lot about his personality. I do believe that people can learn from their mistakes as well as change for the good, though. To what extreme is your family against your fiance? Remember, your family will have your back and love you no matter what happens. I hate to bring the ugliness and the reality into this, but 50% of marriages in the US end up in a divorce. What I'm suggesting is for you to consider that you would never know what will happen with love and marriage, but your family will always love and be there for you. I hope this works out!

well i think that you're familys reaction is completely normal. my parents would probably LITERALLY kill me. But at the same time, you're the one getting married and you're the one who'll pay for the consequences IF anything goes wrong, not them. Being that he is your fiance, you're probably at an age old enough to know your rights and wrongs. I think it's upto you. Yes, you are up against your family and i'd be scared as hell to do that but sometimes its not about the people you're choosing between, its about whats right. If its been 3 years and you know this is it, then go for it. He's marrying you, not your family. But dont expect it to be easy and warn him too. My brother's relationship was 2 years and the girls mother hated our family for no reason..i guess because people in the indian community talk alot of **** and people had a lot to say about us cause we didnt reallytalk to all the other indian familys we did our own thing. and they broke up 3 times and her mother did end up gettin what she wanted. they ended it forever because my brother couldnt take how everything was always about her mother. so thats just a warning. but i believe that if you do what your family wants you to do, you'll blame them if you miss him. you have to do what you want..like really want with all your heart.

I can understand why the parent;s feels that way. They only want what is best for you. Parent's sometime feel that no one is good enough for their child. He needs to prove himself to the family. You and him need to talk to your parent's together, and at that time, ask them to at least give him the chance to prove that he will not be incarcerated again and intends on becoming a asset to society . Talk it out.

your both adults...make your own choices...tell your family so and be honest...but if they are right....you will always have family left and they will respect your honesty...but i listen to my family more than i do someone i have known for a few years...they are on the outside looking in...you are on the inside looking out...good luck

it may take a while, but the best thing this man can do is show your family that he is a good man, loves you and is going to take care of you, despite his past.

It's your life not your families.....do what makes you happy.
Just because someone was locked up doesnt automatically make them a bad person......sometimes good people make bad choices.
