Would it be better to have two cockatiels so they can keep each other company? If I have only one, will it be sad and want more attention than I can give it?

We had gotten only one and ours began pacing for hours on end. My vet sugggested getting a second one for company and it worked, the pacing stopped. They've been together for almost 3 years now. i think our first one is much happier now with a cage mate.

If you are home all the time and can give the bird attention then you can probably get by with only one bird. If you are gone all day you may want to get another so they dont get lonely. Some birds dont want a friend though. I had a cockatiel for about a year, then i left for the day, 5 days a week, so i got him another bird. I think that he might have been ok alone, but i didnt want him to get lonely and they seemed to bond some what. good luck!

It depends, if you want the birds to enjoy each other's company rather than spending time with you, get two.. But if you want a bird that is affectionate and learns to talk and interacts with you, then get only one.. And don't put a mirror in the cage, a mirror is equal to another cockatiel.

You can also keep a single bird from being bored with toys. Be inventive. Make sure that it is allowed to come out when you get home. I kept my cockatiel alone for 10 years and never had a behavior problem. I always made sure that he had toys to play with, chew on, and destroy. He got a lot of out of cage time when I got home. He was very bonded to my mom and myself, he even learned to talk.

I accually have more problems with him now that he has cage mates.

I've had them before. Just get one, they don't do well togather. My two nearly killed eah other, I ended up selling the girl, she was causing problems.
