Absolutely not. The Zodiac Killer, John Gacey, Green River Killer, Jeffery Dahmer, Wayne Williams, David Berkowitz...all those people were fictitious characters made up by folks with big imaginations.

What about Jack the Ripper, the Boston Strangler, the pig farmer from Picton BC. There have been quite a few serial killers through out history.

In a philosophical sense, no.
In terms of a definition of a kind of behaviour carried out by various kinds of people, yes.
Although I have to stress that not all serial killers are of the same kind, or kill for the same reason. Many of them are mentally ill, others are misguided.
