Toward the end of WWII there was some evidence that the leadership in Britain wanted to return as much as possible to a prewar state. With the empire intact. But too many promises had been made and the world had changed too much.

That overt Dictaotrship doesent work so giv the illusion of choise and use covert Dictatorship, throw up some puppet bad guys incite the population into a '2 minute hate', and denounce abnyone who says 'hey hang on a minute', as a terrorist sympathiser, dumb down the population so they can police themselves and strip away any rights by fake terror plots and incidents, err that kind of thing

during the war itself? I don't think they were planning for that long. The plan was to win the war, at any cost. Because without victory there would be no future.
