"Religion" is something that one practices. If Christianity is approached from that perspective - it very well could be difficult. As can seen within scripture, none ever did it totally correct except for Jesus. Even after the church was est. people still never have gotten it 100% correct all the time (thank God for His GRACE).
"Belief" on the other hand is having confidence in the truth or existence of something not immediately susceptible to rigorous proof. To me, this would be the easier and actually more scriptural as Jesus paid the price and carried the burden already for me.
I have a way of life. It isn't set by some stated rules and regulations that someone determined that I need to follow that very well may not even be found within scripture (religion). Instead, I have an example given me by God in His Son Jesus. It is Him that I follow. When I stumble - He picks me up. When I fail, He places me back on the track I need to be on (belief).
As long as I keep my eyes upon Jesus and His teachings and examples - it isn't difficult at all. Take my eyes off of Him - hard times are upon me.

It is hard to follow because we are not made perfect when we become Christians. We simply start the journey towards relationship with God. It is like any relationship, it needs to be worked at, and like Paul says, its like running the race. So yes, I enjoy serving God because He loves me but it is demanding because it demands that I love in return and that is the hardest thing because I am not naturally loving. Don't forget that we follow Christ who not only was joyous but also suffered. Its a fairly clear example that it will not all be plain sailing. Keep going! Whether up or down, God is unchangeable and faithful.

I hope you Christians will not mind me intruding on a question addressed to Christians, but, as a Spiritual person myself, I'd like to say that the responses I have seen so far are uplifting. I adore Jesus, unfortunately, I cannot be Christian as I do not believe he is the only manifestation of God, or Deity, if one prefers the term.
However, the joy, committment and devotion that I have seen evinced in the replies to this answer is refreshing. It is so pleasant to see a simple exhiliration in one's religion, without the usual gripes about doctrine that put me off pure Christianity a long time ago.

I do enjoy serving God because God gives me great joy and peace. It's not an easy thing to do because many people misunderstand what I believe or why I believe it. However, that doesn't make me want to stop believing in Christ. I don't nessecarily feel that it's demanding because I know that my salvation is a free gift of God's grace. I know that my occasional frustration is worth having everlasting peace.

Yes, I find it extremely hard to follow. I have no problem with God, or the infinite, or even a singularity (well even less of a problem with the latter!)
What does bother me is the predeliction of men down the ages to harness their prejudices to the concept of God (et al).
Having been brought up as Christian (notice the capital letters?) and agreeing with the Christian "ethic", I really cannot serve any any belief system which asserts that man cannot return whence he came without the intercession of Christ and His church, especially the chuch bit!
If you are ok with that, good luck to you. Certainty is a precious gift, but best kept to one's self.

It is hard to keep on the straight and narrow path. I could do a lot more than I am doing. I have just started a new job working 10 hours a day. I had a heart attack last June so all I want to do when I finish work is sit down all evening., I have to force myself to go out to meet people like me at 12 step meetings.
i am also finding it hard to pray at the moment.

I agree. There seem a good number of Christians right here who think of that u . s . a . of america become based via Christians and the only motives different religions are allowed right this is using fact u . s . a . of america is tolerating them. The founding fathers have been atheists and the Christians ought to settle for different non secular ideals and end damning each non Christian to Hell. i'm Muslim and that i think of that Christians who're overly zealous and prefer condemning human beings to Hell in accordance with diverse religions want a path in background understand that u . s . a . of america is in accordance with freedom of religion no longer purely Christianity. no longer all Christians are like this yet some are and it makes me mad to be certain those people who do no longer persist with their very own Bible wisely and think of they are able to diss different religions.

No not at all. God makes the path easier. Yes there are bumps and hills and curves that we must over come but that is part of life.We learn lessons from those bumps and hills and curves. Following the Commandments can really make that road a lot easier. If we give God 100% of ourselves to Him, He will bring us thru anything. I love serving God and doing His will. And I love God with all my heart, soul and mind

Christianity is full of countless struggles, but as you seek Christ, you overcome every one. You have many many promices that you can always count on, because God can never lie. And knowing Christ is worth much more than living. Not only that, but having eternal security of heaven and eternal life makes even the hardest of burdens worth bearing. Knowing Him is worth every moment, every prayer, every tear, every burden, and every hurt. Keep seeking Him. Keep your eyes upon the fact that He saved you from your sins by dieing upon that cross. As you do, everything will fall into place.
It's like in Matthew when Jesus was walking on the water, and Peter came out and walked on the water too. But Peter looked away from Christ and fell into the deep. He had to shout to Christ for help. In the same way, keep your eyes planted on Jesus, and you will never go wrong.
And remember, spending time to Seek and Know Christ is much more important than the little things or problems of life. Get serious about Seeking!
