Birds love to chew on things. Maybe make some kind of paper toy. I made a toy for my parakeet with a string of shiny "crystal" beads with a couple of bells hanging on the end- he loves it! Try not to give your bird a mirror- they become obsessed with the bird in the mirror, thinking it is another bird. They will become harder to train and want to spend less time with you if you give them a mirror.

Probably anything that will stand up to constant pecking without comming apart and is bright colored could be a parakeet toy.
They seem to like small mirrors, bells, most things that rattle or spin. Look in the baby toy section you probably can find lots of things you can adapt for your bird.
Those seed balls are cool. Also a small bowl with water, they love to bathe!

They love bells, you could get some bells and hang them on leather or paulie rope. I have one toy the is five strands of paulie rope with beads on them, each strand has a bell at the bottom. It's cool and the birds seem to love it.
You can also use food as a toy, making a feeder out of the pinecone by coating it in peanut butter and then rolling it in seeds. Cutting up a bagel with peanut butter on it and threading it onto a skewer. One that is made for your birds, a kabob I think they're called. I have several of them and alternate them with veggies and whatnot.

I used some floral wire and threaded wooden beads and leather strips and other decorative items from the craft store, usually in the bead or necklace area. You could also use hemp rope. Just use caution with the type of beads and decorations because the need to be tough enough to handle a bird pecking at it, after you are finished you want to twist the wire and curl it under for the safety of the bird. Foraging toys are helpful and promote healthy activity. Wrap treats and food in small pieces of wax paper and twist the ends. show them what you are doing. http://www.birdsnways.com/birds/ideas.htm This is also a great place to get ideas. Have a nice spring.
