No, I know lots of people who are rich and give just as much as is expected of them, but where I really see niceness (is that a word?) is in the people who can't afford it and give so much... but there are many good wealthy people... probably just as many good wealthy people as good any people...there are just less wealthy people in the first place so a good one is harder to find I guess... and do you define nice by charitable donations, time spent, or just that emotional understanding for everyone and their situation, and is able to sympathize and posibly lend a helping hand in the biggest or smallest of situations?... Tough question...but like I said... probably just as many wealthy people are nice as the less-wealthy (sorry for the rant!)

Just the opposite, in my experience. A lot (not all) of wealthy people can drive by a homeless person and not even see him, and when it comes to giving of their time and their money to a good cause, lots of luck with that.
It seems like the poorer people are the ones who will scrape up the last handful of change that they have and give it to the Salvation Army or the Red Cross. They also tend to be quicker to volunteer to help someone else in need.
Maybe it's because they've suffered, too, and they've developed empathy for other people.

No generally the dirt poor people are a lot nicer. Wealthier people tend to be snobs and rude.

Not necessarily. If you look up how many celebrities are taking anti-depressants, the number is very high. It really depends on the person and their ability to be optimistic....you know....take the good with bad, and realize that things won't always be bad.
But many people say that money buys happiness, and there is no arguement there. Of course it does. But not always. There are so many things in this world that give people pleasure and happiness without spending a penny.

my answer is biased, because i don't like rich people. i have thought of few as friends and they always turn out to be greedy and self centered (of course i thought they were nice at first, but it didn't hold up). not one has managed to keep from doing something so selfish it actually made me feel physically sick. even more so with those who claim they want to help others. you don't get rich by being a good person. at some point, you will have to do something with the assumption that what you want is more important than what other people need.
if i was going to generalize, i think that the nicest people are working class poor. in other words, those who are trying to provide a good life for their families, but managed to avoid selling out even enough to quit living paycheck to paycheck. i have always said that what separates us as humans is neither racial nor spiritual, it's economic.

I think you are getting it backwards. Wealthier people tend to be nicer because they can afford to be. They can buy their way out of any trouble that comes along. Of course, they can turn it off the instant they think someone is taking advantage of them.
Some of the kindest people I know are poor. "Nice" is superficial and overrated.

Nay Nay!! Quite the opposite, I have found. You might be confusing niceness with intelligence, manners and world travel. None of them have been nicer, No. @80)

I don't think it is about being poor or rich.
I think it starts with home training where you are taught to respect all people regardless of their station in life.
Sometimes, I meet or interact with well-to-do people who can come across as a little haughty but not always.

Nope, some of them are happier when they have your money gotten in improper ways.
But the guy that passes the collection plate in the name of god seems to have enough to buy cool stained glass windows, and lacquered crosses.

People who become wealthy by their own work are rarely nice, and neither are their spoiled children,
Those who are born into several generations of wealth tend to be nice tho.
