Uh, let's back this train of thought up to the station, OK?

If people can't afford food, clothing, and toys for their children, odds are good that they may not have a computer or even the electricity to run a computer. Ditto a portable CD player which probably would cost them half a year's wages even if they had a place to buy one.

In that case, the Bible on CD is a small silver Frisbee.

I donated $a hundred to international resourceful and prescient final Christmas for the acquisition of a goat for a kinfolk in Africa, as my mothers and dads' Christmas present (because of the fact i'm a pupil, won't be able to spend lots, and that they are actually not materialistic besides). I regarded at charities on line from a disinterested internet site and that they had: A) a good attractiveness, B) quite some the money that I despatched them (eighty%? something like that) might somewhat pass in direction of the acquisition of the goat. the certainty that they seem to be a Christian charity is beside the point (additionally, something Alex Trebek helps won't be able to be all undesirable, conversing as a dyed-in-the-wool Jeopardy buff.) They have been between those with the wonderful assure that my money may be spent the place it grew to become into needed, and the goat grew to become into because of the fact of delicate motives (kinfolk used to run a goat farm), so it labored out exact. I spend $264 each year if my math is real ($22/month) on non-religious charity, and $50 final 12 months went to the podunk animal look after the place my mothers and dads are (incidental charity spending), so I spend extra on non-religious than religious. I do shop on the Salvation military each from time to time, and used to artwork there too.

Is this a serious question? You think they should include the Bible in CD form? The recipients can't afford food or clothing, but you assume they have computers and CD-ROMs?

If you don't agree with what the charity does or how they spend the money, then don't donate. Check www.charitynavigator.org for thousands of other charities to donate to, as well as reports on how effectively they are run.

I think it's worth-while supporting Mencap in any way shape or form...well done for supporting such a need...although i get your meaning about postage. Maybe there wouldn't be enough CD players, but it's a great idea...some people like to be able to hold and touch , such as a book.

A well placed gift is the most exciting thing that you can do.....but sometimes I don't have to look very far to where a gift can mean something.

For example, my son was held back because he even still has reading issues......but he has met many friends, and still does well in math. One of his friends comes over to visit him and he doesn't wear shoes.....odd, but ok, boys are boys I guess. I asked him about it and he said that his school shoes aren't to be worn outside of school since he doesn't have any more to replace them. My son has bag fulls of shoes that he has worn a couple times and then has outgrown since he is bigger than most kids in his grade now. I took many clothes, shoes, etc over to his mother's house and she was so grateful for the help.

They are going through a rough time and were so thankful for the help, even when they never asked for it.

It really makes me feel good when I pick my son up from school and see that friend wearing the clothes and shoes I took over to them. Look for all possibly ways to help people, the best way is to interact with people and meet their needs as they come up.

I hope you can find different ways of helping other people, my husband's favorite was when he bought a homeless guy a hamburger at a quik stop, we got to talking with him and he was a bicycle repairman, and the bike he had fit me really good, it was a female bike, so we bought the bike from him.

It feels great to help out other people, especially when they aren't out to scam people. Tax breaks are great, but we don't make enough to have that situation, but tax breaks are accepted by the IRS after 10% of your income, if you do make that much....

If they are going to a third world country, what are they going to do with a CD? Use it for a coaster since they probably don't have computers.
