Ive got about 300 hundred i can think (BA Art HIstory)
but the most famous would likely be the School of Athens by Raphael If you look throughout the painting you can see various other famous people Da Vinci, Plato, the Virgin Mary and the man sleeping at the bottom of the steps is actually modeled after michelangelo.
For some really good art with stories behind them look into Dutch art of the golden age
particularly Rubens, Vermeer, and de hooch has some very interesting stories behind his work, but way too much to explain here.

Da Vinci's "The Last Supper."
Da Vinci had a real hard time finding a model for Jesus Christ in the picture. He finally found his perfect model: a poor dirty beggar that lived on the street.
Some hypothesize that it may have been Christ himself.
