My grandmother has hyperthyroidism -- she's getting something called thyroid storms. Every doctor we've been to says that she needs some sort of radiation treatment, but we can't find any sort of coverage. She went to Parkland today and was told that she'd been misinformed about their sliding scale payments -- & then two doctors told her to hurry up, because she's dying. Every doctor she's been to has said that since she was finally diagnosed in Nov06.

We just need SOMEWAY to get her on a program that will help us pay for the radiation pill treatment. It's suppose to stop the mental confusion, forgetfulness, everything. Her heart is going -- she could have a heart attack because of the hyperthyroidism and because of the pills she takes that help treat it.

She & Grandad care for the grandkids -- me, my younger sister, and my 24-year-old severely autistic brother. None of us wants her to die.

go to helping hands of rockwall. they are so nice, and wont treat you like youre in the city. you have to go to greenville social security office to apply for social security. that takes a long time. if you call the social security office, they will make you an appointment. human services will get her on any medical plans she qualifies for. also, my mother in law uses a rowlett address for parkland. if you know anyone in dallas county, use that address. then parkland will be free. the problem with parkland is that youre not residing in dallas county. Rockwall helping hands also has a clinic that she can use on a sliding scale, and walmart has 4 dollar prescriptions for some meds. they will help her there too! good luck. email me if you need to. rockwall helping hands is in the phone book and on the internet.

Contact the Texas Department of Human Services. They will be able to tell you if she qualifies for Medicaid. There is a limitation on income and assets but I don't know for sure what it is. Call them right away. You may have a local office in the city where you reside.

She will possibly have to sign her house over to the government and her bank accounts (maybe for after she is passed away ). Not sure about the details. I know that to get food stamps you can't have more than $1500 in the bank, but you are allowed to have a car.
