in my backyard and we think he came from our neighbors down the street probably was used for cock fighting but they moved away and left him. he runs all over the neighborhood but we put some feed and water out for him over last summer when it was like 106 degrees. so now he made a little nest thing under our bushes. the only problem is that he crows and wakes everyone up in the morning. should we call animal control? my close friend has a ranch but there is a some what busy road and i doubt they would want him. what should we do? just leave him in the backyard?

Unfortunately, if he has been used for fighting, he is dangerous to other birds. I would call animal control, if they think he can co-habitate with other birds, then he will have a home. If he is dangerous to others, then he will be humanely put down.

If you are feeding it, they can say that you are the owner, and if he was used for fighting, then you could get in serious trouble, just for trying to do the right thing.

Hey there. Put an ad in the paper and at local feed stores. I'm sure someone would be happy to have him. Some newspapers don't charge for found pets. Have a great spring.

Invite a few friends for dinner and learn how to make gravy. Problem solved.
