My fiance and I are planning on getting married on Mar. 21, '08. We are both Catholics and avid hunters, so we decided on a Catholic Camo wedding. We aren't sure if the Church will allow this or not. Is this an inappropriate theme? Will the Chruch allow us to have a camo wedding?

You're only going to have one wedding (hopefully, best of luck on that), and weird stuff like that makes it memorable, hey, while you're at it, how about if the father of the bride carries a shotgun?? (just kidding) Maybe instead of flowers, the bride can carry a spray of pine branches, and the bridesmaids and ushers can wear animal costumes? hehe, or maybe the ushers could be hunters, and the bridesmaids bunnies :) In my own experience, the priest is not nearly as much problem as the mother of the bride with respect to things like that, the MOB often tends to think of it as "her" day, not the bride's. She has been most likely dreaming about it since the day you were born. If you really want to do it that way, and the priest objects, maybe you could have the priest marry you in a private ceremony at the church, then to include your theme wedding, you could get a JP or universalist minister to do that with your friends at a park or somewhere. Congratulations, and best wishes...

That depends on the priest presiding over the wedding. You might also want to consider if the idea of camo is a bit whimsical for a solemn occasion such as a wedding. That is something the priest may take into consideration. Other guests might feel the theme somewhat inappropriate as well.

If you wish, a probably more appropriate way to do this would be to have a camo-themed reception ... perhaps with the wedding party leaving in a safari sort of caravan.

There will probably be a question of this theme interferring with the sanctity of the service. "The Church" doesn't care what you wear when you get married; the priest who is witnessing your marriage probably will. Remember, you are celebrating a sacrament in a house of God and, like it or not, in western culture we have preconceived notions about what is considered respectful attired.

My suggestion... save the most overt "theme" stuff for the reception. Your guy can be in a khaki suit and your bridesmaids can be in tan or green and carrying, I dunno, Tiger Lillies, but save the real hunting stuff for the party.

sounds fun....but wouldn't you rather just have a full camo reception and just a touch of camo at the church?

That's really fun, it's your wedding...besides God made the tress and bushes...the inspiration we get camo from, how could they refuse?
