That is exactly what I did. If it were up to me, I'd probably paint all of my trim black like you see in Europe, but in SoCal everyone still prefers white.

I would just make sure you love it first. Maybe cover the area with dark paper or for the door trash bags, cut to fit, to see how it would look, because if you use that dark a color it will be a nightmare to paint over it.
The last place I rented before buying my home had a dining room that was painted a moderately dark blue/green. I made the room look dreary and small. I wanted to do a peach colorwash (which eventually looked lovely and far better). After 2 coats of primer, and kilz, and 2 base coats of white, you could STILL see some of the color. So I would shudder to think what black would be like to paint over. And exterior paint is harder to cover too.
The walls would be hard enough but trim is always 10X harder to paint than walls. Also to my tastes it sound like it would make it an area I would think you want to pop and look open and elegant be darker and disappear.
But if you see how it looks, go for it. If you are computer saavy you could first try to take a digital picture and color it and see what you think. But I'd do that or finding a way to simulate it live, before committing to it. But if you end up loving it, then go for it...you have to like it! Just make sure it gives you the look you want.

frequently the door physique is seen to affix the trim so is painted the comparable shade. Your front door ought to be painted to verify shutters, if any, or a thoroughly diverse accessory shade. i've got even surpassed some interior the country with metallic roofs and notices on some that the front door matched the roof shade. this is a controversy of selection.

That would look very nice. You could also think about doing the trim in black and the door a deep grey with light mocha tones in it.
