I have a horse his front right hoof turns down on the outside. He is starting to favor it when he walks. Could his shoe be built up on the outside to even it out. His leg is starting to turn out. It is like when some one has one leg shorter than the other that si what it reminds me of on the ouside of the hoof.

How long ago was he trimmed? He probably needs re-trimming. I'd definitely call the farrier. However, if the farrier just came out, and your horse is having a problem, perhaps it is the farrier? In which case I would suggest the yellow pages ;)

I would call the farrier and have him come out. He should be able to trim the hoof to correct the problem. Farriers can do some amazing things! While he is there, have him trim all the hooves.

Also, ask him to recommend the best interval for your horse for farrier visits. It can be anywhere from 4-8 weeks between visits, depending on how your horse's hooves grow. Every horse is different. I think mine need a trim every 6 weeks, I had a horse that needed trimming every 5 weeks, but she had laminitis. Getting the proper trim interval will prevent issues in the future.

A farrier is your first call to make. He can trim the hoof so it is even and reshoe the horse. Might as well pay him to do all four.

The farrier will tell you if you need the vet, but chances are the hoof needs trimming.

Call your farrier and have him or her come and retrim your horse's feet. Your horse may also need corrective shoes to prevent him from toeing out, which is what you are describing in your question. I would consult your vet, and tell him/her about this- and ask what he/she recommends as your best course of action. As for the horse favoring his leg on that side, a visit by your vet is definitely in order to learn the cause of that- and to make sure that there isn't some other, more serious condition going on, such as an abscess or a quarter or sand crack. There are shoes made for horses that have this condition and other conditions related to it, so I would ask about them when your farrier and vet come.

a good farrier can work miracles but i say a good farrier. one that doesn't know there stuff can also cause problems and lame your horse. Try to find a good one and ask them to watch ur horse move and see if they can "stand your horse" back up for u. They'll do what they think to correct the balance of the foot, if it doesn't make ur horse more comfortable they'll recommend u see a vet and maybe potentially sell the horse if it's actually a confromation fault. Ur first call should be an experienced or licensed farrier. Good Luck to u and ur horse.
