I am sorry that you got so many "vet" answers, but you hadn't explained that he had already been to the vet..so, that was every-one's first advise.
My own dogs have something causing diarrhea, and the vet was puzzled. He checked the stools for everything, no fever, and no obvious pain. Three of them were having same major diarrhea..
I came home from the vet with Imodium and a prescription dog food. Well, after cooking them rice boiled in broth, feeding them broth as a beverage, the Imodium, and then last night giving the prescription food, all are better today..Still puny, and not feeling great, but much better..

Here are some sites that will be helpful to you> http://www.2ndchance.info/diarrhea.htm

I read your other post, it is a chihuahaua with vomiting, and rashes,
it there diarreha occuring as well, any blood in the poop?
The gator aid it not really unusual it has electrolytes to help keep him hydrated.
feeding just rice could be or one of 2 reasons
because the vet suspects allergies or because the pup is suffering from diarreha, is he still vomiting ?

Did the vet say what they thought might be wrong?

More info is needed inorder to offer suggestions

It could be something like a possible food intolerance allergy, a bacterial infection in the digestive tract, maybe a malformation of the esophagus in which a chest x-ray may be needed, maybe infection, possible the dog swallowed something that is now stuck in his stomach and cause food not to want to bypass and causing infection as well

Vomiting can occur for literally hundreds of reasons, without tests a vet can only guess what might be wrong, so sometimes running a bunch of tests are necessary inorder for a vet to narrow down what is actually wrong inorder to effective treat the dog and in the long run can save you money inorder to get the dog better faster, so you are not having keep running back and forth to different vets, or the dog may die because the vet does not know the real cause of the problem without the tests. So sometimes it is necessary to bite the bullet and have the tests done even if it means running up a bill that one has to make payments on afterward. Sometimes it will require a personal sacrifice to pay the vet bill like shutting off the cable, cancelling a cell phone or cancelling internet service for a few months till the bill is paid, most of us have something in our budgets these days that is not an essential need that we could drawn on if money becomes really tight

ok...sounds like he was dehydrated. Rice is good. In a couple of days add some protein to the rice....believe it or not, cottage cheese works well and is tolerated by sick dogs. Food has to be reintroduced slowly. After the tolerates the rice and cottage cheese mixture for a few days, add boiled chicken. Slowly introduce his dog food in larger and larger portions until he is off the "sick" food and totally on his regular dog food.

You must have a previous question that goes along with this. But we don't have a clue what you are talking about
