You need to first boil them, then once they are a little bit cool, peel the skin off. Mash them or use a food processor to make them smooth.

Boil and then peel them. Mash them with a little milk and some butter. I would not recommend any brown sugar or maple syrup as you could get the little tyke addicted to the sweet and he/she will never want to eat anything else.

boil the yams and then peel them and for a 6 month old you don't need salt nor pepper keep it natural use a little low fat milk to the mixture or soy milk... (healthy)

simply boil it with skin on then mash when cooked so your baby can eat it nicely and easily=D hey that's how my mom makes yams! i personally hate it and i think it's disgusting, it takes me forever to eat it but it has a lot of nutrients.
