if both legs are dragging then it's prolly spinal injury. best thing to do is call an emergency vet. if u can't then don't let him move around cuz that could cause more dammage to the spine, if that's what it is.

Since your dog is dragging both legs, this could be something very serious and you should get it looked at.

If your vet's office is closed, that is no excuse to put off medical treatment. You can call your vet's office - a lot of the time, vets' offices phones will transfer you to an emergency vet clinic if your office is closed for the day. If it does not, call 411 or look in the Yellow Pages for an emergency vet. You may have to travel a little further, but it's better than leaving your dog in pain.

Think of it this way - if you couldn't move your legs, would you want to have to wait another day before going to the doctor?

Also, I would keep all vet bills you're incurring from this and present them to your neighbor. Their kid needs to know that it's never okay to kick a neighbor's dog, and that there are consequences when you hurt someone's animal or destroy their property. At a very minimum, they need to pay for the vet treatment.

It sounds like he may have suffered back damage, or more specifically nerve damage.

You really don't have much choice. You are going to need to make him as comfortable as possible, and then get to the vet as soon as possible. With a little care, he may get better, but it may require surgery in the worst case scenario.

I would hunt down that kids family too, and make it clear they need to help with the cost....I don't know what the circumstances are, but kicking an animal is not cool.

Until you can see the vet, you might also try icing the area, 20 minutes on, and 20 minutes off. He will be in pain, and will not like it that much, but if there is swelling, that is contributing to any damage that was done, then it might help.

I'm sorry for him and for you...this does not sound like a good thing at all.

Is there an emergency vet close? Sounds like the kid might have hurt the dogs back or spinal cord. I am not a doctor, but I don't think that is good that both legs are dragging behind him now. Good luck.

Wow... Definately that kid needs help. Kids that are mean and abusive to animals, go on to hurt people....
Anyhow, the dog is an outdoor dog? I would bring him in the house, and make him comfortable. Call the emergency vet and tell them what happened and what you see. Take his temperature so if they ask, you know what it is. Check him for dehydration, is he eating, peeing etc etc. Make sure you can give them as much information as possible. They won't be able to tell you exactly what it is, but they'll have a few ideas what might be going on, and can tell you if you should go right in or if it's okay to wait til the morning and go to your regular vet.

Ummm...wrap the legs with tensors for dogs and give him an ASA for pain (like Tylenol, but has to say ASA only otherwise it could be dangerous). Are there any 24 vet hospitals? He may have hurt the other leg when he was limping because extra weight would be put on it. Try to keep him off the legs until you take him to the vet. Make sure the kid's parents know what their child did, because they shouldn't be kicking your dog and if you think they should pay the vet bill....they would want to know that. I really hope your dog is better soon!

If you have an emergency vet clinic in your area, get him there ASAP. If not, get him someplace where you can keep him quiet until morning when you can get him to your vet's office. Go in first thing, don't bother calling for an appointment.
It sounds as if the kick may have caused a spinal injury and this needs to be treated as soon as possible!

Go to another Vet's office if your Vet's office is closed. This sounds serious. Then take the Vet Bill and give it to the parents of the child that kicked your dog.
If you had a kid and someone kicked him and he couldn't walk, would you wait to take him to the doctor?

My cat just died shortly after his back legs gave out on him. It was a blood clot and he died in about 10 mins. You need to take it to a VET - ANY VET. He could have spinal damage, a blood clot or any one of numerous things. The longer you wait the more you chance him not being able to recover from this. CALL ANY VET, or your vet should have an emergency answering service. You will pay more for the emergency call but it is your dog and if value his life you need to get him to a vet. I tried to get my cat to the vet but he did not make it. Please PLEASE call a vet.

Go to a different Vet office and then call the SPCA/Police on the boy who kicked him
