i chop it up and put it in a skillet with a heaping spoon of margerine or I coat the skillet with oil and put a lid on. I stir often and season with salt and pepper. I call it fried cabbage. I can control the 'mushiness' of the cabbage this way and sometimes my kids will put a lil soy sauce on theirs. mmmm good

Defineitly with the beef, imo.

My recipe:
INGREDIENTS

* 3 pounds corned beef brisket with spice packet
* 10 small red potatoes
* 5 carrots, peeled and julienned
* 1 large head cabbage, cut into small wedges

DIRECTIONS

1. Place corned beef in large pot or Dutch oven and cover with water. Add the spice packet that came with the corned beef. Cover pot and bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Simmer approximately 50 minutes per pound or until tender.
2. Add whole potatoes and carrots, and cook until the vegetables are almost tender. Add cabbage and cook for 15 more minutes. Remove meat and let rest 15 minutes.
3. Place vegetables in a bowl and cover. Add as much broth (cooking liquid reserved in the Dutch oven or large pot) as you want. Slice meat across the grain.

I do mine separately. It gets too fatty if done with the corned beef.

I like to jazz it up a bit, so I add a touch of red wine (for color), core and chop up an apple and add that, and add a little bit of cinnamon. This works best with roast pork, but I like it with corned beef, too.

Plain old boiled and buttered cabbage bores me.

I saute it in bacon fat with garlic, onions and red bell pepper

6 strips of bacon (chopped)
4 cloves of chopped garlic
1 medium onion chopped
1 medium red bell pepper cut into strips
1 head of cabbage shredded.
Salt and black pepper to taste

Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat. Add bacon and brown. Lower heat and add onions and garlic. Saute until onions become translucent. Add cabbage and red bell pepper and salt and black pepper. Cover pan with lid. As cabbage starts to wilt, use tongs to turn the cabbage in hot bacon fat. When the cabbage reaches the level softness you like take it out of pan and serve.
