this just started about a month ago. We both work full-time jobs, but my dad takes care of him daily (he has done this since he was 2 mo. old). Is he just having security issues, or is it something more?

I think all kids go through this at some point. Children have many different phases throughout their lives that they go through and this is one of them. It won't last forever, I assure you. My daughter is almost 2 and lately, she seems to always want someone by her side, but she has never done that in the past. She is getting better because we started giving her activities to do while we are busy. Last night, I let her color while I was cooking. Her table is positioned where she can still see me, so she knows I didn't leave. Try giving your son something to play with, like ABC blocks or books and try stepping out of the room, but talk to him as you are doing it. When he hears your voice from the other room, he will start to understand that you are still there and didn't leave him.

If that's all it is, it's just a security issue. If he cries in the morning when you drop him off every day and looks like he's thanking God when you come pick him up, then I would think there is more to it. If not, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure he stops crying when you leave.

Sounds like normal separation anxiety. Just ride it out and don't overreact to your son; that will just reinforce the behaviour. Good for you having grandpa watch him; I think that's awesome if you can't do it yourself.

It's probably just security issues, most kids that age have it. He knows what "gone" means, so he knows that if momma or daddy are "gone", that means they aren't there.

Sounds stupid spelled out on here, but it's true. :-)
