They were doing what they were told. Pontius had Christ cut down as soon as he passed out, he felt bad for him having committed no crime according to Roman law. He told his wife and mother to heal him and keep their mouths shut and then Jesus and his wife were to leave and not be seen. The guards were to say the body had been stolen. Jesus happene to say goodbye to the wrong drunk friends and a legend was born. Ah well, 'tis the drink that makes us fools eh?

It is in any of the four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke or John. The bribers were the Sanhedrin representatives. It is ironic that the Sanhedrin, which was supposed to be the ones to look for and identify the Messiah, were His greatest persecuters. He got back up anyway.
