I don't seem to drink at all during the week.I drink once a weekend,if that .But when I do I can't seem to control how much I drink. If I don't stop I may lose the one person I actually care about in my life.Would you even call this binge drinking.
It's obvious I have some sort of problem.

Yes, it's binge drinking. I wouldn't say you're an alcoholic. You just don't know when to slow down when you have a couple. You're just gonna have to tell yourself when you go out, that you're only having a certain number of drinks. Like 3. Then once you have them, your done. Or limit yourself to a beer an hour. If you can't do this, don't drink all together.

The great thing about this subject is that every answer you could ever want is in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, WHETHER OR NOT YOU ARE AN ALCOHOLIC.

As it states in the forward to the first (original) edition:

"To show other alcoholics precisely how we have recovered is the main purpose of this book.

"For them, we hope these pages will prove so convincing that no further authentication will be necessary.

"We think this account of our experiences will help everyone to better understand the alcoholic.

"Many do not comprehend that the alcoholic is a very sick person.

"And besides, we are sure that our way of living HAS ITS ADVANTAGES FOR ALL." ***

So with the ultimate privacy of the internet, you can read the stories of alcoholics online, without anyone pressuring you.

IF you find the book convinces you that you need what the people of The Program have to offer, then the answer will be simple: "Go To A Meeting".

Nothing more. Just go to a meeting.

Then go to another one.

Then, if you think you have recovered, PLEASE go to another meeting, because someone such as yourself will be there who doesn't know what to do about their behavior, and YOU will be able to help them.

That is a really great thing to be able to do.

In other words, whatever the answer is for you, it will be found in humility, NOT in pride.

Alcoholic or not, that is a primary lesson for all of life.

And ask this person you love to read the Big Book as well. Then they may be willing to hang with you as you do what is best for yourself FIRST.

When you go out drinking, have a glass of water or another non-alcoholic drink in between each alcoholic drink. Don't pound the water, but drink it like you would any other drink. Also, no shots. This will spread your drinks out much better, you'll get full sooner, much more time will pass in between drinks, and the night will be over without you drinking yourself stupid. Also, focus on the reason why you want to drink less and keep reminding yourself of this. Tell your friends seriously that you want to drink a little less if it's something they will understand or maybe help you with.

There is something called a 'weekend alcoholic.' Many of us have been there. You have two choices...quit drinking or don't.
